JayZ's death of autotune
is one of many auto tunes/
Spit out by an industry that
mocks Christ and glorifies fools/
Yet majority of his sales
comes from the so-called Christian/
Who think him and his wife's ego
are manna from heaven/

-Cross.Eyed

But hey, this post is not about my critique of JayZ & Beyonce, I've already been there numerous times. The new JayZ T-Shirt above just inspired me to start a discussion on one of the many "controversial" lines in his new CD - Blueprint 3. I want to know what his Christian 'fans' think, or just hear from some disicples.

So in his song entitled "Empire State of Mind", one of the lines states
"Jesus can’t save you, life starts when the church ends".

What do you guys think? Was he just trying to rhyme. Was he using symbolism? Is he an anti-Christ? Is he just being sarcastic? Of course, you saw my opinion at the beginning of this blog, but let me know if I'm being "too dramatic" or looking "too deep"... LEAVE A COMMENT! :)

The complete verse:
[Jay-Z]
Lights is blinding,
girls need blinders
so they can step out of bounds quick,
the side lines is blind with casualties,
who sipping life casually, then gradually become worse,
don’t bite the apple Eve,
caught up in the in crowd,
now your in-style,
and in the winter gets cold en vogue with your skin out,
the city of sin is a pity on a whim,
good girls gone bad, the cities filled with them,
Mami took a bus trip and now she got her bust out,
everybody ride her, just like a bus route,
Hail Mary to the city your a Virgin,
and Jesus can’t save you, life starts when the church ends,
lyrics courtesy of killerhiphop.com
came here for school, graduated to the high life,
ball players, rap stars, addicted to the limelight,
MDMA got you feeling like a champion,
the city never sleeps better slip you a Ambien[Chorus]

In New York,
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
Theres nothing you can’t do,
Now you’re in New York,
these streets will make you feel brand new,
big lights will inspire you,
lets here it for New York, New York, New York
Welcome to the bright light..

Wow intense! I saw this earlier but wasn't able to comment. I initially thought that unfortunately people will probably not take JZ serious because no one says things like this publicly.

Ask Beyonce. lol
I really think JayZ thrives off his controversial lyrics.
Scripture says the Holy Spirit EXPLICITLY tells us that many anti-Christ spirits have gone out to deceive us, that if possible God's people would fall away (paraphrased).
Do I think he has an antichrist spirit....um yea!
Is he The Antichrist, I don't know.
On a level of artistry, he could've been just trying "to rhyme"... (Ofcourse, that's not controversial enough, to "just rhyme").
At first glance, I'm offended at that line. On second thought, JayZ is a very worldly leader, and I believe he's speaking from a very human, natural-realistic p.o.v. So, when he's talking about how "Jesus can't save you" I take it he really means Jesus will not stop YOUR WILL i.e. your choice to not follow Jesus is an option. "Life begins where the church ends" = age old deception plaguing ppl who probably grew up in the church and are tempted to experience "life" (the world), independent of Jesus. Jay-Z hasn't experienced Life with Jesus tho. What he knows are the rules of the church and its control on americans to live (what he thinks) a hum-drum life.

(It seems if Satan can't get you with JayZ's deceptive lyrics; He may numb you with Beyonce's seduction. double team. lol. actually not funny. God I pray you would have Beyonce encounter your Truth, discern your ways, truth from error, and renew her mind.

God give your bride DISCERNMENT!! Help us to stop flirting with the world while we prepare to walk down the aisle to the wedding altar of your return.

AMEN to you both!! I definitely do not think he is The AntiChrist, but I definitely agree with you Gayon, he is spitting "wisdom" from his worldly perspective of the church.

It is saddening however that most of his support comes from "us" the church. We should either agree with JayZ and go be 'bout it in the world. Or stop dead in our tracks and reject him as an antagonist to the God we serve... But I know we all weren't born able to discern these things. It takes Jesus Himself to remove the scales from our eyes [continuously], or else we're all damned, myself included.

Lord, I pray you give your bride DISCERNMENT for real! Give us eyes to see the clean and the unclean, those who are for you and those who are against you. So that from there we can start praying the right prayers, remove the faces of hypocrisy that the world is seeing in the ecclesia [church], and even pray freedom for JayZ and Beyonce... maybe.

MARANATHA!!!!

""YOUR LIFE STARTS WHEN THE CHURCH ENDS" HE'S SAYING THAT THE GIRL WHO HE'S TALKING ABOUT IN THE VERSE IS IN CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY BUT AS SOON AS CHURCH END, SHE'S SLEEPING AROUND WIT DIFFERENT MEN. WHEN HE SAYS "JESUS CAN'T SAVE U" HE SAYING THAT THE GIRL ISN'T GIVING HIM A CHANCE TO BC EVEN THOUGH SHE GOES TO CHURCH AND KNOWS WHATS RIGHT FROM WRONG SHE STILL CHOSES TO DO WRONG. SHE'S LIVING A DOUBLE LIFE. HE ALSO SAYS "DON'T BITE THE APPLE EVE". C'MON, ITS COMMON SENSE! "

Yes, JayZ is speaking form the girl's perspective that goes to church every Sunday but lives promiscuously as soon as she "escapes"... and does not believe that Jesus can save her, but rather, that "the good life" starts after church is over.

But that reference, along with the "Hail Mary" etc, tend to have double meanings, just like the seemingly meaningless Jeezy-Lebron phrase. JayZ not only inserts his street smarts in songs, but is very well read, and knowledgeable on many ancient texts and authors as he advances in Freemasonry. JayZ has plainly stated that he is no follower or respecter of Christ, which is why he has “never read the Bible a day in [his] life”.. as he said in a video commentary on his song “Lucifer”. He is however, an avid reader of Aleister Crowley (research), and can be seen here wearing one of Crowley’s most famous Thelema/occult/enlightened mottos “Do what thou wilt”: http://www.thedoggstar.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Jay-Z-thouwilt.jpg

"Hail Mary" is also a form of Marion worship to ancient sun deities and goddesses. You can notice this in most pictures of Mary where there is a "halo" around her head, signifying her sun/deity status... this is not the Mary of our Bible that they are depicting. This is why Beyonce also transformed the "Ave Maria" and "Halo" songs, to sing about an angel of light that she has found.

I do not believe JayZ (or his associates) would call himself a Devil worshipper, however, he does consider their texts very “enlightening”, and relays the symbols all over his ROCAWEAR clothing line. This is just a shallow video post to stir disciples to listen carefully, and to check who you are supporting, even as a Lukewarm Christian. I have posted many more videos that use stronger facts and more knowledgeable persons to explain Jayz’s Roc Nation tactics(Rockefeller)…. This song is the least of many.

I have not read the comments written before mine. However, I do think Jay-Z wants people to worship him. The Roc sign is a symbol to glorify him, the nickname HOVA is to try to elevate him to a god like person, and his current and past lyrics exemplify this song and previous ones such as "Lucifer" Beyonce is not living in the spirit either, her lyrics clearly have sexual undertones. The sad part is, people do follow them, idolize them, emulate them. I actually had a conversation about this today with ppl at my church, and a classmate last week. I think some people justify the lyrics or maybe worst don't care about the lyrics under the pretense that they just like the beat, not realizing the power of music. Someone recently told me that the Devil was a an angel of music. I believe he has clearly used artist to poison our minds. I can remember being in middle school, knowing every single word to a sexual rape song, because it was cool, because it was on the radio. this continues today, with both beyonce and jay-z. imagine how many young children sing "ego" and "empire state of mind" not entirely comprehending what they are enforcing. and people think it's cute when their 2 year olds know "single ladies" and how to dance like beyonce like in "crazy in love"

sad. but God is a strong tower. He can triumph this. All we have to do is ask.
